“Clever and sweet in perfect measure.”

From Capitol Choices: Noteworthy books for children and teens

Raspberry is an expressive stuffed rabbit given to Henry at birth by his grandfather. Now the cuddly companion has gone missing. Grandfather advises his young relative to imagine that his friend is back. The words are spare, but carefully chosen. The characters are created with gentle strokes of ink, filled in with the color of the background butcher paper. When the story begins, an actual striped shirt, leafy branch, and muffin with jelly are among the elements forming collaged borders and adding personality and interest. When Henry’s imagination kicks in, the backgrounds and foregrounds are more fully developed with screened photographs of the high seas or snow-capped mountains. Clever and sweet in perfect measure. Wendy Lukehart. Up to Seven. (This title will appear on the October agenda.)
